MONTPELIER, Vt. – The sunny, crisp days of September in Vermont are an ideal time to get outside and visit a community fair, sample local food at an autumn festival, check out beautiful locally made artwork and handcrafted furniture, and take in some spectacular fall foliage. Vermont State Fair
Rutland – Sept. 3-12, 2010
The 165th edition of the Vermont State Fair includes carnival fun, food, demolition derbies and concerts by Charley Pride, Wynonna Judd, Danny Gokey, Rick Springfield and Molly Hatchet. 175 South Main Street. For more information, visit www.vermontstatefair.net.

Garlic & Herb Festival
Bennington – Sept. 4-5, 2010
Everything from garlic ice cream to garlic jelly, pickled garlic, roasted garlic, garlic braids, and of course, plain garlic bulbs of every variety will be available for sampling and purchase, along with planting and braiding demonstrations as well as cooking demonstrations. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Camelot Village, Route 9 west. Killington Classic Motorcycle Touring Rally
Killington – September 9-12, 2010

South End Art Hop                                                          

Burlington – Sept. 10-11, 2010
Burlington’s South End is home to the greatest concentration of start-up businesses and artists studios in Vermont. For the Art Hop, 500 artists are featured in more than 100 locations, indoors and out. Various locations throughout Burlington’s South End. Shelburne Museum Goes to the Dogs
Shelburne – Sept. 12, 2010
If you’re crazy about canines, roll on over to this fun party at Shelburne Museum. This fun party for four-legged friends and their people includes a costume parade, agility course, contests, dog social areas and more. Tunbridge World’s Fair
Tunbridge – Sept.16-19, 2010
Where the past, present, and future meet up for four days of the fair. The 139th World’s Fair features working antique displays, horse, pony and oxen pulling, horse racing, exhibits, free shows, a midway and more. Tunbridge Fairgrounds. For more information, visit www.tunbridgefair.com.

The British Invasion
Stowe – Sept. 17-19, 2010
New England's largest all British classic and sports car show plus British cultural activities, shops, crafts and more. The participants are primarily from the U.S. and Canada with over 600 cars on the field. Includes special driving tours and Tailgate Picnic competition. Route 108. Vermont Fall Season Kick-Off Event
Shelburne – Sept. 23, 2010
Shelburne Orchards will host a Fall Season Kick-Off Event featuring Woodchuck Cider, apple picking and Apple iPods to celebrate the first day of fall. Sponsored in partnership with the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, the event is free and open to the public. The event is also the official launch of the fourth annual “Apples to iPods” promotion, giving visitors to Vermont’s pick-your-own orchards a chance to win an Apple iPod. 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. 216 Orchard Road, Shelburne. Vermont Life Wine & Harvest Festival
West Dover – Sept. 24-26, 2010

Peru Fair
Peru – Sept. 25, 2010
Join more than 100 vendors at the annual Peru Fair. The event includes the fair’s famous pig roast, as well as local artisans, farmers, crafters, live music, food, hay rides, a parade, children’s activities and more. Chili Cook Off
Poultney – Sept.25, 2010
Poultney’s annual chili cook off features more than 25 chili aficionados competing for the best tasting chili. This Rotary Club sponsored event consists of chili-obsessed chefs vying for the title of “Best Chili Chef.”  Come and sample some of the tastiest chili around.  10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Main Street. Vermont Fine Furniture & Woodworking Festival
Woodstock – Sept. 25-26, 2010
Vermont’s Fine Furniture & Woodworking Festival showcases Vermont artists-in-wood and their commitment to keeping traditional skills and crafts alive. Guests will see that these exhibitors live their lives with tools of the craft in hand. Browse the displays, make purchases, chat with woodworkers, or see them at work carving, turning, and crafting their wares. Union Arena, Route 4. Fall Foliage Festival
Northeast Kingdom– Sept. 27-Oct. 2, 2010
Six Vermont villages invite visitors to celebrate rural life against a spectacular backdrop of orange, red and yellow leaves.
