MONTPELIER, Vt. — A major winter storm delivered more than a foot of new snow across Vermont on Wednesday, giving a boost to the state’s important winter season.
Total snow accumulations vary across the state, with higher amounts ranging from 15 to 23 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Additional snow in the forecast over the next couple of days will increase those totals.
“This is the winter storm Vermont has been waiting for,” said Vermont Tourism and Marketing Commissioner Bruce Hyde. “The amount of snow that Vermont has received in the past 24 hours will help transform a solid winter season into an excellent one.”
On Wednesday, several ski areas reported more than 12 inches of new snow. The Vermont Association of Snow Travelers snowmobiling trail network reported 8 to 16 inches of new snow.
This late season storm is a boon for the snowmobiling and ski industries, as well as many other Vermont businesses that depend on winter tourism.
“The storm is outstanding news for Vermont’s winter tourism industry,” Hyde said. “There is now a significant expansion of powdered terrain for skiing and snowmobiling, and the conditions are amazing.”
