MONTPELIER, Vt. – The sunny, crisp days of September in Vermont are an ideal time to get outside and visit a community fair, sample local food at an autumn festival, check out beautiful locally made artwork and handcrafted furniture, and take in some spectacular fall foliage. Garlic & Herb Festival
Bennington – Sept. 5-6, 2009
Everything from garlic ice cream to garlic jelly, pickled garlic, roasted garlic, garlic braids and, of course, plain garlic bulbs of every variety will be available for sampling and purchase, along with planting and braiding demonstrations as well as cooking demonstrations. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Route 9 west. Killington Classic Motorcycle Touring Rally
Killington – September 10-13, 2009
This annual event includes a welcome party, bike show, self guided tours, grand parade, casino night, pig roast, rock concert, pancake breakfast and vendors. Registration is free. Route 4 and Killington Road. For more information and a complete schedule, visit www.killingtonclassic.com.

South End Art Hop                                                         
Burlington – Sept. 11-12, 2009
The South End of Burlington is home to the greatest concentration of start-up businesses and artists studios in Vermont. For the Art Hop, 500 artists are featured in more than 100 locations, indoors and out. Various locations throughout Burlington’s South End. Shelburne Museum Goes to the Dogs
Shelburne – Sept. 13, 2009
If you’re crazy about canines, roll on over to this fun party at Shelburne Museum. This fun party for four-legged friends and their people includes a costume parade, agility course, contests, dog social areas and more. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Route 7. For more information, visit www.shelburnemuseum.org.

Vermont Apple Season Kick-Off Event
Shelburne – Sept. 15, 2009
Shelburne Orchards will host an Apple Season Kick-Off Event on Sept. 15 featuring Woodchuck Cider, Apple iPods, Shelburne Farms cheese and live music to celebrate the autumn harvest. Sponsored in partnership with the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, the event is free and open to the public. The event is also the official launch of the third annual “Apples to iPods” promotion, giving visitors to Vermont’s pick-your-own orchards a chance to win an Apple iPod. 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. 216 Orchard Road, Shelburne. Tunbridge World’s Fair
Tunbridge – Sept.17-20, 2009
Where the past, present, and future meet up for four days of the fair. The 138th World’s Fair features working antique displays, horse, pony and oxen pulling, horse racing, exhibits, free shows, midway, food and more. The British Invasion
Stowe – Sept. 18-20, 2009
New England's largest all British classic and sports car show plus British cultural activities, shops, crafts and more. The participants are primarily from the U.S. and Canada with over 600 cars on the field. Don’t miss the Beetlemania Village Block Party on Friday, Sept.18 on Main Street in Stowe Village from 7-9 p.m. Enjoy dancing to the tunes of BritishMania, a nationally-acclaimed Beatles tribute band, during a free live performance. Vermont Life Wine & Harvest Festival
Wilmington – Sept. 25-27, 2009
The Mount Snow Valley Chamber of Commerce and Vermont Life Magazine present this culinary festival, now in its second year. Enjoy chef cooking demonstrations, wine and food tastings, live music, craft vendors, cheesemakers, art exhibits and more. Peru Fair
Peru – Sept. 26, 2009
Join more than 100 vendors at the 28th annual Peru Fair. The event includes the fair’s famous pig roast, as well as local artisans, farmers, crafters, live music, food, hay rides, a parade, children’s activities and more. Parking available at Bromley Mountain. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will be held in Peru Village, located off Route 11. Chili Cook Off
Poultney – Sept.26, 2009
Poultney’s annual chili cook off features more than 25 chili cookers competing for the best tasting chili. This Rotary Club sponsored event consists of more than 25 contestants vying for the title of “Best Chili Chef.”  Come and sample some of the best chili around.  10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.poultneyvt.com.

West River Whitewater Release
Jamaica – Sept. 26, 2009
Grab your canoe, kayak or raft and join paddlers from around the Northeast to ride class II to class IV rapids as the US Army Corps of Engineers releases water from Ball Mountain Dam. Thousands of people come to the park to watch the action on the West River and hike along the three mile long former rail bed hiking trail that gently winds up the steep valley. Vermont Fine Furniture & Woodworking Festival
Woodstock – Sept. 26-27, 2009
Vermont’s Fine Furniture & Woodworking Festival showcases Vermont artists-in-wood and their commitment to keeping traditional skills and crafts alive. Guests mingling and shopping see that the exhibitors live their lives with tools of the craft in hand. Browse the displays, make purchases, chat with woodworkers, or see them at work carving, turning, and crafting their wares. The Old Fashioned Harvest Market
Underhill – September 26-27, 2009
The Old Fashioned Harvest Market, started in 1975, is a family community event that attracts more than 10,000 visitors each year. The event features crafts, hay rides, flea market, a silent auction, parade, cider, baked goods, jams, pizza, cotton candy and much more. Route 15. Fall Foliage Festival
Northeast Kingdom – Sept. 27-Oct. 3, 2009
Seven Vermont villages invite visitors to celebrate rural life against a spectacular backdrop of orange, red and yellow leaves. Seven unique festivals take place in seven towns over seven different days.
